NEWARK, Del. – A five-goal third quarter for the University of Delaware women's team proved to be the difference against Mount St. Mary's, and the Blue Hens improved to 3-0 with a 13-9 win against the Mountaineers. The loss gives Mount Saint Mary's a record of 0-2. The win for Delaware makes it the first time the Blue Hens have started off a season 3-0 under head coach Amy Altig.
ON THE RECORD
On the Blue Hens overall performance
"I thought the defensive unit was just outstanding and offensively our discipline resulted in our highest goal output of the season," Altig said. "Great team win, just excited to get ready for Temple."
On halftime adjustments
"I give our coaching staff all the credit; they just are so quick with making the adjustments that we need to make to share the win," Altig said. "Our kids adapt and adjust as we go and they execute the game plan really well."
On starting off the season 3-0 for the first time under Altig
"We thought we could have played a lot better in our UMBC game and the very next day we had kids coming into film and individuals," Altig said. "In the past, we did not necessarily have that, so I think the fact that these kids are putting everything they have into becoming real students of the game and wanting to perfect their craft… all the credit goes to them and then it pays off on gameday."
