Softball Falls to Virginia in Final Day of Rawlings Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Delaware softball was defeated by Virginia, 5-0, on Feb. 25, 2024 during the final day of the Rawlings Classic. Delaware ended the weekend 3-1 against Iowa State, Lehigh, and Virginia.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Morgan Hess threw 4.1 innings and allowed zero runs and just three hits.Â
- Chloe Blantz, Gianna Costaro, and Julia Boyet all went 1-for-3, while Maddie Fife went 1-for-2.Â
- Katie Scheivert also worked a walk.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emily WInburn pitched a perfect first inning, generating two groundouts and a flyout.Â
- Virginia scored five runs in the second inning. Hess came in with two outs and got the final out.
- Fife caught a runner stealing second base to end the third inning.
- Hess stranded two runners in scoring position in the fourth by generating a groundout to end the inning.
- Hess stranded two more running in the fifth and allowed just one hit in a scoreless sixth.Â
- Scheivert walked in the top of the seventh for Delaware but were not able to bring her home.
GAMES NOTES
- Hess has allowed just one earned run in her last three appearances, and 10.2 innings.Â
- Boyet has a hit in five consecutive games.

- Delaware will play Delaware State for their home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 3:00 p.m.
