NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware's Emily Winburn threw a complete game against Morgan State to lead Delaware past the Bears in a 2-1 pitching duel on March 13, 2024. Delaware has now won five of their last six games.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Winburn went all seven innings and allowed just one run with six strikeouts.
Sydney Shaffer had a double and a triple.
Julz Garber went 2-for-3.
Gianna Costaro went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Julia Boyet went 1-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base.
Katie Scheivert had a sacrifice fly.
Jenna Giattino went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Winburn wiggled out of a threat in the first inning after a ground out stranded two runners aboard. She then pitched a hitless second inning and picked up her second strikeout.
In the bottom of the second. Boyet singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third base, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Scheivert to bring home the first run of the game.
Winburn picked up another strikeout and made it through the third with the help of a caught stealing by Maddie Fife.
Delaware tacked on another run in the third after Giattino and Garber led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Costaro had an RBI single.
Morgan State scored their only run in the fourth, but a double play and a diving catch by Giattino got Winburn through the inning.
Another double play in the fifth inning kept Morgan State off the board.
Winburn picked up another strikeout in the sixth and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh with another strikeout to finish out the game.

GAME NOTES

Winburn threw her fifth complete game of the season and 41st of her career, tying Amanda Stacevicz for eighth most all-time in Delaware history.
Winburn also has 389 career strikeouts.
Garber recorded her eighth multi-hit game of the season.
Shaffer had her first career triple and seventh multi-hit game of the season.
