Men’s Basketball Drops Regular-Season Finale at Stony Brook; Locks Up No. 6 Seed in CAA Tournament

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The University of Delaware fell in the regular-season finale Saturday at Stony Brook, 79-56. The Blue Hens fall to 18-13, 10-8 CAA, while the Seawolves move to 17-14, 10-8 CAA.

Delaware clinched the No. 6 seed in the CAA Tournament. A three-way tie was created with Delaware, Stony Brook, and Monmouth at 10-8 after Saturday's results. UD has a better win percentage based on records against the trio of tied teams at 2-1, compared to Stony Brook at 2-2 and Monmouth at 1-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Jyáre Davis finished with a team-best 16 points. He added 16 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
Niels Lane recorded 11 points as the only other double-digit scorer for the Hens.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware held a slight advantage at the first break at 14:10 with a 9-8 score. The Hens would go up 13-8, but the Seawolves responded for their largest lead to that point at 27-18, which forced a Delaware timeout with 6:38 left in the opening frame. The home team would widen it to as many as 13 but took a 38-29 lead into the half.
UD opened the second half with a 10-2 advantage, including 8-0 over 1:48 to cut the gap to 40-39 at the Stony Brook timeout with 17:03. Stony Brook answered with a 10-0 run over 1:39, holding the Hens scoreless for 3:07 to lead 50-39. The gap ballooned to 19 as Stony Brook connected on 9-of-10 for a 63-44 lead when UD called timeout at 9:23. The Blue & Gold would not develop any substantial run to end the game.

The Hens clinched the sixth seed in the CAA Tournament next weekend. Delaware will take on the winner of No. 11 Elon and No. 14 Hampton on Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. on FloHoops.
