Women's Lacrosse Overcomes Lafayette and Rain, Defeat Leopards, 13-3

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team were able to overcome the Lafayette Leopards and rainy conditions by putting on a defensive clinic, defeating the Leopards, 13-3. The Blue Hens recorded the most caused turnovers in a game in team history with 26 and tied for most ground balls with 33. Both records were previously set in 2017 against William & Mary. Madison Hranicka also recorded the most caused turnovers in a game in school history with 11, also adding on eight ground balls. With the win, the Hens improve to 6-1.

- Riley Gillin scored five goals and finished with seven points. Gillin continues her run of recording at least three points in every game this year.
- Jaclyn Marszal finished with a hat trick of her own and five points total.
- Madison Hranicka shattered her own record she shared with Erin Wein and Caitlin McCarthey of most caused turnovers in a game all-time in Delaware history with 11.
- The Hens recorded their most caused turnovers in a game in team history with 26.
- Delaney McDaniel finished with two goals.
- Lizzie Hsu, Morgan Gore, and Riley Sturtevant all notched a goal, totaling six goal scorers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens jumped out to a commanding 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
- The Hens continued their defensive pursuit in second quarter; also outscoring the Leopards 4-0, going into the half up 9-1.
- The Hens focused on defense and slowing down the game during the third quarter as the Leopards outscored the Hens 2-1.
- The Hens continued their defensive surge during the final 15 minutes, shutting out the Leopards and adding three more goals of their own.
GAME NOTES
- Steph Marszal started and played the first half in goal, while Sophia Foohey closed the game out in goal for the second half.
