Track & Field Have Strong Showing at Hopkins/Loyola Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Delaware track & field team headed down I-95 on Saturday (April 20) set to compete at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, hosted by Johns Hopkins from Johns Hopkins/Loyola Track & Field Complex in Baltimore, Md. The Blue Hens set 10 personal-best marks/times headlined by Jayde McDermid dominating performance in the 100m hurdles.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Tiffany Herrera and Libby DeMichele opened the Blue Hens day racing in the 5000m and posting personal-best times. Herrera clocked a time of 17:51.69 to finish in second place while DeMichele posted a time of 18:52.37 to finish 14th overall.
- McDermid cracked the top-10 record books in the 100m hurdles after clocking a personal-best time of 14.83 to finish second in the race. Her time now sits 10th in school history. Destiny DeBlock finished the race in eight place thanks to a season-best time of 15.73. DeBlock also ran in the 200m and posted a time of 28.33 (38th overall)
- The 1500m saw a pair of Blue Hens run personal-best times. Danielle Eshelman posted a PR time of 4:46.48 (14th place) while Katie Kuhlman finished the race in a PR time of 4:59.48 (28th place).
- Chali Baumann finished the 100m in 13.21 (22nd overall) before leaping for a PR mark of 5.00m in the long jump to finish 12th overall.
- Sara Manson also set a PR in the long jump (5.47m) to finish in fifth place. Manson also set a new PR in the triple jump (10.98m) to place fourth overall.
- Madison Shaffery leaped over the high jump bar for a personal-best mark of 1.60m, finishing tied for fourth place in the event.
- Jenna Scandale (2:21.14, sixth place), Marissa Mauro (2:21.55, eighth place) and Kuhlman (PR-2:31.17) led the way in the 800m for the Blue & Gold.
- Alexa Dougherty was the lone Blue Hen in the 400m hurdles and finished the race in second place (1:06.27).
- Carolyn Coletti ran the steeplechase in 11:38.09 to capture third place.
- The Blue Hens closed out the day in the 4x400m where the squad, Dougherty, Scandale, Mauro and McDermid, clocked a time of 4:00.68.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens return to action to compete at Penn Relays hosted by University of Pennsylvania starting Thursday, Apr. 25 through Saturday, Apr. 27. Kosie Nkwonta opens up the competition for the Blue Hens competing in the hammer throw on Thursday at 12 pm.
