Pair of Blue Hens Earn Trip to NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships First Rounds

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2024 outdoor season continues for the University of Delaware track & field team as a pair of Blue Hens earned berths to next week's NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships First Rounds in Lexington, Ky. Sarah Daniels (3000m Steeplechase) and Halima Scott (400m) became official entries into the postseason event on Thursday afternoon, announced via press release on NCAA.com. This will be the second straight season head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele had at least two athletes advance to the NCAA postseason event.
Looking to steal the show in her first-ever appearance in the NCAA First Rounds of her career will be Daniels. Daniels will lead the way for the Blue Hens in the 3000m Steeplechase which is the first time Delaware will be represented in the event in program history. Daniels earned the postseason berth thanks to her monster personal-best/second in school history time of 10:24.16, a time that sits 47th (44th after declaration) in the East Region. The Burke, Va. native finished in the top 10 five times during the spring campaign.
The University of Kentucky will serve as hosts of the NCAA East First Rounds from UK Track & Field Complex, which officially starts next Wednesday, May 22. Scott will open the competition for the Blue Hens in the 400m on Thursday, May 23 at 7:25 p.m aiming to make top-24 in the event. Daniels will compete on Saturday, May 25 at 5:40 p.m. while Scott will look to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals (6:50 p.m.) after Thursday's performance. Both Scott and Daniels will be looking to be one of the top-12 qualifiers that advances to the national stage in June.
The University of Arkansas will serve as the host of the West First Rounds from John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are held from June 5-8 from Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, hosted by the University of Oregon. It will be the 15th time the outdoor championships have been held in Oregon and the first time since 2022.

Scott makes her return to the NCAA East First Rounds for the second time in her career ready to make her presence known in the 400m. The Camden, N.J. native ran 53.38 at the 2024 CAA Outdoor Championships to win the bronze medal, bringing her career total to eight medals during her career as a Blue Hen. Scott has won two of her races this season as her qualifying time ranks 48th (37th after declaration) in the East Region.I am immensely proud we have two exceptional athletes, Halima and Sarah, who have qualified for the NCAA first round in their respective events," said coach Iyevbele.
