Men’s Basketball Dominates Monmouth in CAA Home Opener, 84-64

NEWARK, Del. – In dominant fashion, the University of Delaware men's basketball team (8-7, 1-1 CAA) rolled past Monmouth (3-12, 1-1 CAA), 84-64, in the CAA home opener Saturday in the Bob Carpenter Center.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the first half, including 8-of-10 from long range.
- The Blue Hens finished the game at 51.7 percent from the field, 52.2 percent from long range, and 66.7 percent at the line.
- UD won both the rebound (+8) and turnover (+1) margins.
- Erik Timko and Niels Lane each tallied 17 points to lead the Hens.
- John Camden neared a triple-double with 15 points, tying his career mark of eight rebounds, and adding a personal best seven assists.
- Macon Emory, who made his first career start, notched a career-high in both points (11) and rebounds (8). He also deflected a pair of shots.
- JUCO transfer Kevin Kogbara also recorded a career day with highs of eight points and six rebounds.
- Delaware made five-straight triples to start the game before a Monmouth timeout with UD up 15-7 at the 17:10 mark. The Hens continued the hot start forcing a second Hawks' timeout at 12:22 with the Blue & Gold ahead 29-17. Delaware tallied a 7-0 run into that stoppage over a 1:03 span. The home team pushed the lead to 22 with a 16-3 run over 6:29 including 11 unanswered over the final 3:53 for a 45-23 score with 4:39 left in the first. UD went into the half with a 51-27 lead - the largest at the halfway point this season.
- Monmouth cut into the lead over the first 12:06 of the second period as it outscored the Hens 13-11 to put the score at 62-40. Monmouth would pull within 19, but never stood a chance the rest of the way.
- Delaware moves to 8-2 when leading at the half this season.
- The Hens' 51 first-half points were the most in the opening frame this season and first 50-point half performance since 51 in the second half against Delaware State.
- The Blue & Gold advance to 89-22 under Martin Ingelsby when holding opponents under 70 points.
- This was UD's fifth game this season with at least 10 three pointers.
- Every Blue Hen available played in the game.
- Tahron Allen, Kobe Jerome, and Cavan Reilly missed a second-consecutive game due to illness.
