Football Falters at Sam Houston

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- QB Nick Minicucci completed 24 passes for 338 yards and a passing touchdown. He added his ninth rushing score of the season on the ground.
- RB Viron Ellison Jr. made his first-collegiate start, recording career-bests in rushing attempts (19) and yards (97) and scored a touchdown.
- WR Sean Wilson reeled in a career-best nine catches for a career-high 162 yards, his third-consecutive 100-yard receiving contest.
- DT Jack Hall tallied 3.5 TFLs, a career-best, while tying his career mark in tackles with seven.
- S Kahlil Ali notched his first-career sack to go with five tackles.
- CB Nate Evans broke up two passes, tying his career best.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minicucci got Delaware on the board first with a seven-yard rushing touchdown, putting the Hens up 7-0 with 2:14 to go in the first quarter.
- K Nate Reed knocked in a 37-yard field goal with 9:20 left in the first half to put UD ahead 10-0.
- Sam Houston ran it in from two-yards out with 2:35 left in the second quarter to cut it to 10-7.
- The Bearkats knocked in a 32-yard field goal as the half expired to even the score at 10.
- Sam Houston split the uprights from 48-yards away with 11:22 to play in the third quarter to take its first lead at 13-10.
- A 62-yard rushing score for Sam Houston extended its lead to 20-10 with 8:34 to go in the third.
- The home team added a pair of field goals to go up 26-10.
- Ellison Jr. found the endzone from three-yards out to bring the Blue & Gold to within single digits with 8:47 left in regulation. A failed two-point attempt left the score 26-16.
- Minicucci found Max Patterson on a 26-yard seam route to the endzone to make it 26-23 after the extra point.
- Reed converted his third successful onside kick attempt of the season with 2:34 remaining to give the ball back to the Hens down by a field goal.
- UD had a chance to tie with a field goal from 36-yards away but couldn't convert.
GAME NOTES
- With his first made field goal, Reed connected on nine consecutive, tying him for fourth-most in school history with Ryan Coe (2021).
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will head to Wake Forest on Saturday, November 22 at noon. The game will air on the ACC Network.
