Scheivert Records 100th Career During Day Two of Mizuno Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - University of Delaware softball's Katie Scheivert recorded her 100th career hit during day two of the Mizuno Classic - the 40th player in program history to record 100 career hits. The Blue Hens defeated Penn in five innings, 11-0, in the first game before falling to Virginia 11-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS VS PENN

Gianna Costaro hit a three-run home run and had two hits and two runs scored.
Chloe Blantz went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Ellie Talley had a pinch hit three-run double.
Mary Beth Cahalan had an RBI single, walked once, and scored two runs.
Scheivert went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Sydney Shaffer scored two runs and walked once.
Ryleigh Thomas had a pinch hit RBI single.
Billie Kerwood earned the win with three shutout innings, allowing just two hits and zero walks with five strikeouts.
Josie Crossman threw two shutout innings.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS VS VIRGINIA

Blantz had another big game by going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run.
Costaro went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
Scheivert drew a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS PENN

Kerwood pitched a perfect first inning with two strikeouts.
Scheivert led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single for her 100th career hit. Cahalan singled her in for the first run, and Costaro hit a three-run home run to put Delaware ahead 4-0.
Kerwood struck out two more hitters in a perfect second.
After two runners reached base in the third, Kerwood retired the next three hitters to escape the threat.
The Blue Hens added a pair of runs in the third on a Blantz three-run home run.
In the fourth, Crossman pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Delaware loaded the bases in the bottom half, and Thomas and Blantz brought runs in with infield singles. Talley then cleared the bases with a pinch hit double to put Delaware ahead 11-0.
Crossman finished off the fifth thanks to help from her defense. With the bases loaded and one out, Costaro stepped on the bag on a groundball and then threw home for the tag for a game-ending double play.

GAME NOTES

Scheivert recorded her 100th career hit - the 40th Blue Hen in program history to reach the mark.
Blantz went 5-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored in the two games.
Blantz is at 98 career hits.
Blantz had her third career game with at least three hits and third career game with at least three RBIs. Her home runs were the fourth and fifth of her career.
Blantz became the first player to hit a home run in two different games in one day since Feb. 26, 2022 (Grace Hrustich vs N.C. State and Bowling Green).
Kerwood is at 493 career strikeouts.
Costaro's home run was the ninth of her career.
Delaware has outscored Penn 19-0 in the two games played.
