Baseball Rolls Past Delaware State 22-2 in Route 1 Rivalry

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball team batted around in each of the first four innings, cruising to a 22-2 victory over Delaware State in the Route 1 Rivalry game at Bob Hannah Stadium. With the win, the Blue Hens have won three-straight games and improve to 3-5 overall, while the Hornets fell to 1-4.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- The Delaware offense broke out for 12 hits and a program-record 17 walks.
- Evan Bouldin and Brett Walmsley each had three hits and combined for 10 RBIs.
- Aaron Graeber had two hits and two RBIs, while Aiden Stewart also recorded two hits and drive in one.
- Ayden Frey drove in three runs and Andrew Amato had a pair of sacrifice flies.
- Andrew Callaway fired a scoreless inning for his first win as a Blue Hen.
- Aiden Murphy struck out three in three innings.
- Brady Blum and Matthew Minckler each had a strikeout in a scoreless frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens pounced early with six runs in the first inning. Bouldin opened the scoring with a two-run double and Walmsley added a two-run single.
- In the second, UD sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs. Bouldin, Walmsley and Graeber each had run-scoring hits while Frey added a sacrifice fly and Rory Finn forced in a run with a walk.
- Frey reached on an error to drive in a run in the bottom of the third, before consecutive sacrifice flies by Amato and Bouldin gave the Blue Hens a 16-0 lead after three innings.
- Delaware State scored its run on a triple and a wild pitch in the top of the fourth.
- UD took advantage of five walks, another sacrifice fly by Amato and RBI singles from Bouldin and Stewart to plate six runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 22-1 game.
- The Hornets scored their final run in the seventh before the game was called due to the mercy rule.
GAME NOTES
- The 22 runs scored were the most by Delaware since a 22-2 victory over Lafayette last season.
- It was the most runs scored at home since the 2023 home opener, a 22-11 win over UMBC.
UP NEXT
Delaware will host Bryant for a non-conference three-game series this weekend at Bob Hannah Stadium. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale will start at 1 p.m.
