RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware softball's Billie Kerwood was named CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week after her performances against North Carolina A&T, the league announced on Monday. This is Kerwood's fourth CAA Weekly Honor of the season.
Kerwood had two dominant starts against CAA opponent N.C. A&T that resulted in a pair of five-inning victories as part of Delaware's program record stretch of five-straight shutout wins. Kerwood threw four innings with just one hit allowed in each start. For the weekend, she pitched eight innings, allowed just two hits and one walk with no runs, and struck out 16. Kerwood struck out nine and walked none in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. In Sunday's finale, she took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning before departing, and struck out seven and walked one in the four innings. Kerwood's four Pitcher of the Weeks are the most in the CAA this season and the most since Emily Winburn had five in 2023.
Kerwood is having a historic season for the Blue Hens in her first season with Delaware. She currently leads the conference in wins (16), innings pitched (143.2), and strikeouts (177) and is second in ERA (1.85), complete games (eight), and batting average against (.203). In CAA only games, she has pitched to a 1.59 ERA with 10 wins, six complete games, 105 strikeouts, and a .193 BAA. Kerwood currently ranks fourth all-time in program history for strikeouts in a season and is already 10th in single-season wins in Delaware history.
Delaware has earned a CAA Weekly Honor in all but one week it has played in, and has had five players honored so far this season (Sydney Shaffer and Kerwood - Feb. 11, Gianna Costaro - Feb. 25, Josie Crossman - March 4, Morgan Hess - March 11, Kerwood - March 18, Shaffer - March 24). Its nine honors are most in the conference and two more than any other team. Delaware is back in action tomorrow night against Villanova and will return to CAA play this weekend on the road against Hampton.
