NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's soccer welcomes assistant coach Darian McCauley to lead all facets of goalkeeper development, head coach Tommy McMenemy announced Monday.
"We're excited to welcome Darian and his family to the University of Delaware," head coach McMenemy said. "Darian is an exceptional young coach with good experience at both the college and professional level. He is competitive, analytical, and brings great energy in the role. He also arrives with championship-winning experience as a player which will be a huge asset. Most of all, we're looking forward to seeing his developmental impact on an exciting group of young goalkeepers."
McCauley joins the Blue Hens after two years at Florida Elite Soccer Academy serving as the director of goalkeeping. Prior to Florida Elite Soccer Academy, he spent time in Pennsylvania as an assistant coach with the men's and women's soccer programs at Millersville University. McCauley also worked as an academy goalkeeper coach with Penn Fusion Soccer Academy and he continues to serve as an assistant director for One on One Goalkeeping headquartered in Lancaster.
During his tenure at Florida Elite Soccer Academy, McCauley helped shape over 12,000 athletes as they headed into college. He oversaw the goalkeeping staff as well as camps, clinics, and classes. His efforts led to the successful recruiting of many athletes in professional and collegiate settings.
"I am extremely excited to join a brilliant staff on the University of Delaware men's soccer program," McCauley said. "The staff and student-athletes have done a wonderful job with the program, and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to being a part of the university and helping the student-athletes achieve their goals academically and athletically, as well as contributing to the program's successes on and off the pitch."
McCauley is a 2020 graduate of Millersville where he won back to back PSAC championships in 2018 and 2019. He tied the program record for shutouts at 24, and is second all-time for career wins with 42. He earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Third Team, and All PSAC East First Team, while also earning being named PSAC Tournament MVP. Following his successful career at Millersville he spent time playing professionally in the USL Championship with the Charleston Battery and Harrisburg Heat.
