Ice Hockey’s Inaugural 2025-26 Schedule Announced

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware and Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) have announced the schedule for the inaugural 2025-26 Delaware ice hockey season. The Blue Hens will play 32 total games, including 16 contests played on UD's home ice at Fred Rust Ice Arena. Delaware will play 24 AHA games in conference, playing home-and-home two-game series against the league's other six teams.

"We are incredibly excited to be joining the AHA for the upcoming season," Delaware Head Coach Allison Coomey said. "The addition of a seventh team is a significant step in the continued growth and competitiveness of the league, and we're proud to be a part of that momentum. As the first NCAA Division I hockey program in the state of Delaware, we're honored to represent this milestone and eager to contribute to the league's success."
The ice hockey era at Delaware will begin with 10-consecutive home games as the Blue Hens will enjoy the comforts of Fred Rust Ice Arena for five-straight weekends. LIU will be Delaware's first-ever opponent witj a two-game series the weekend of September 26-27. The Sharks went 22-11-4 last season, advancing to the NEWHA championship game.
The Blue Hens will open October with a two-game set against Holy Cross (Oct. 4-5). The contests will be part of Delaware's Parents & Family Weekend. The Crusaders went 10-20-4 last season.
Delaware will open AHA play when it hosts three-time defending conference champion Penn State (Oct. 10-11). The Nittany Lions went 19-1 in AHA games last season, rising as high as No. 7 in the national rankings and earning an NCAA Tournament berth. Coomey (2017-24) and assistant coach Melissa Samoskevich (2020-22) both spent time on the Penn State coaching staff.
Conference play will continue as the Blue & Gold will welcome Syracuse (Oct. 17-18) to Fred Rust for a pair of contests. The Orange went 15-23 last season, falling in a three-game series in the AHA semifinals. The homestand will wrap up when Robert Morris travels to Newark (Oct. 24-25). The Colonials are coming off an 8-24-3 record last season.
Delaware will head out on its first road trip, traveling to Erie, Pennsylvania for a two-game matchup against Mercyhurst (Oct. 31 – Nov. 1). The Lakers finished second in the AHA last season with a 20-16-2 overall record, falling to Penn State in the AHA championship game.
The road trip will continue on to Providence, Rhode Island where the Blue Hens will take on Brown (Nov. 8-9) for a two-game non-conference tilt. The Bears went 14-13-3 last season before falling in the first round of the ECAC Tournament.
The Blue Hens will return to Fred Rust for an AHA series against Lindenwood (Nov. 14-15). The Lions went 5-26-2 last season, including a 4-15-1 mark in conference play.
Delaware will close out the first semester with consecutive road weekends, traveling to Union (Nov. 28-29) for a nonconference series before taking on RIT (Dec. 5-6) to conclude the first half of AHA play.
The New Year will see the Blue Hens play six series against AHA opponents, starting with a road trip to Syracuse (Jan. 2-3). Delaware will return home to play RIT (Jan. 8-9) before heading back out on the road for consecutive weekend series at Lindenwood (Jan. 16-17) and Penn State (Jan. 23-24).
The Blue Hens will close out January with their final home series, hosting Mercyhurst (Jan. 30-31). The 2025-26 regular season will conclude with a trip to Robert Morris (Feb. 6-7). Union finished the 2025-26 season with a 13-23-1 record, while RIT went 16-17-4 last season before falling to Penn State in the AHA semifinals.
All seven AHA teams will qualify for the postseason, with the No. 6 and No. 7 seeds meeting on February 19 in the first round and the winner will advance to the single-game quarterfinal round. The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals with the lowest remaining seed traveling to the No. 1 seed and the second-lowest remaining seed visiting the No. 2 seed for a best-of-three-series from Feb. 27-March 1. The championship game will be held on March 7 as the two semifinal winners will battle for the Robert DiGregorio Cup. The winner of the AHA postseason tournament will claim the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
