Women’s Lacrosse Uses Big Run to Take Down Drexel 13-6

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team used an 8-1 run over a span of more than 30 minutes to cruise to a 13-6 victory over Drexel on Wednesday afternoon at Drexel's Vidas Athletic Complex. With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 2-4 overall, while the Dragons fall to 3-4.

"Today was an incredible win for our program," head coach Amy Altig said. "So many different players stepped up in so many moments. I'm proud of the energy our whole team showed rebounding after a very hard-fought game against Georgetown. The energy of our sideline was the juice our team needed to push past Drexel. Today was a great fight and a great step forward to the next part of our season. Go Hens!"

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Ella Rishko led Delaware with four points on three goals and an assist. She also added four draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
- Riley Sturtevant recorded her first-career hat trick and also scooped up three ground balls.
- McKenzie Didio had a career-high three points with two goals and an assist.
- Morgan Gore scored twice, and Sophia Muscolino and Sydney O'Donnell both had two-point efforts with a goal and an assist.
- Kennedy Radziul spearheaded the defensive effort with a career-high five caused turnovers and tied a career high with four ground balls.
- Steph Marszal made six saves in goal, her third-consecutive game with at least a .500 save percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Didio got the Blue Hens on the board quickly with a man-up goal just 1:40 into the contest.
- After Drexel took a quick 2-0 lead, Rishko responded with back-to-back goals to put UD back on top at the end of the first quarter.
- Didio and O'Donnell both scored to extend the lead to 5-2 midway through the second frame.
- The Dragons scored their first goal in 24 minutes to make it a 5-3 game, but Maggie Porter had a response less than a minute later to push the lead back to three.
- Sturtevant buried her first two goals in the final 30 seconds of the quarter to give UD an 8-3 lead at halftime.
- The two teams traded goals in the third quarter as Muscolino scored a free-position goal and Sturtevant and Rishko both completed their hat tricks.
- Gore added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter seal the win.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware's victory snapped a five-game losing streak against Drexel and moved the Blue Hens to 28-13 all-time against the Dragons. It was Amy Altig's first victory over Drexel.
- Rishko has recorded hat tricks in four-straight games and in five of six contests this season. She now has 20-career games with at least three goals.
- O'Donnell picked up her first-career assist and first-career multi-point performance.
