Offense Explodes as Women’s Lacrosse Routs Lindenwood 25-7

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team exploded for 25 goals, including 16 after halftime, and had 11 different goal scorers in a dominant 25-7 victory over Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Blue Hens outscored the Lions 9-1 in the third quarter and 16-1 in the second half on its way to scoring the program's most goals in a game since 1987.
With the win, UD has now won four-straight games and improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in ASUN play, while Lindenwood falls to 3-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.

We definitely learned a lot about how to play Thursday and Saturday games with lots of travel. The defense locked it down in the second half and we made great adjustments both defensively and on the draw. I'm so proud of this team win and excited to go home with a 2-0 weekend."

The Blue Hens will return home to Delaware Stadium next weekend for a pair of ASUN matchups. Delaware will open a five-game homestand on Thursday against Jacksonville before hosting Stetson on Saturday. Both games will start at noon and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Saturday's contest will be Delaware's Senior Day and Alumnae Game.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware had 12 different players score a goal and 13 register a point. Four Blue Hens had at least five points and seven Hens had multi-goal performances.
- Jaclyn Marszal finished with a team-high eight points, all of which came after halftime. She had two goals and tied a career high with six assists, while also adding two ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control.
- Sophia Muscolino tied a career high with seven points, recording her first-career hat trick and dishing out four assists.
- Grayson Buono scored a career-high five goals, four of which came in the third quarter, and also grabbed two draw controls.
- Riley Sturtevant scored three goals and added two assists for a career-high points, and Maggie Craytor also had a trick and a career-high four points.
- Ella Rishko finished with three points on a goal and two assists to go along with four draw controls.
- Maggie Porter and Sydney O'Donnell both had their first-career two-goal games and Morgan Gore had two points on a goal and an assist.
- Delaware had a season-high 19 draw controls, finishing with a 19-10 advantage. Molly Baumgratz led the effort at the draw with six draw controls.
- Mary Matey set new career highs with four draw controls and three ground balls
- Steph Marszal made three saves in goal.
- Delaware was 5-for-7 on free-position attempts and outshot Lindenwood 36-12.
- The Blue Hens were 10-for-10 on clear attempts and had a season-low 10 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter on goals by Drab, Gore and Muscolino.
- Lindenwood battled back to knot things back up, but Porter buried her first goal of the game off a feed from Gore with 19 seconds on the clock to give UD a 4-3 lead after the first quarter.
- Sturtevant and Porter scored less than a minute apart midway through the second quarter to extend the lead to 7-4.
- Lulu Rishko and Muscolino both found the back of the next to increase the run to 4-0 and give UD a five-goal advantage before the Lions scored twice to make it a 9-6 game at halftime.
- The Blue Hens pounced for nine-straight goals in the first 10:28 of the third quarter. J. Marszal had a goal and five assists in the frame, and Buono found the back of the next four times.
- Muscolino, Craytor, O'Donnell, and E. Rishko all added goals in the third quarter explosion.
- Sturtevant and Buono scored to open the fourth quarter before Marszal added her final tally on an assist by Kennedy Radziul for her first-career point
- Craytor scored twice in the final frame and O'Donnell added her second of the game, while Meg MacMurray scored her first-collegiate goal.
GAME NOTES
- The 25 goals are tied for the fifth most in Delaware's record books, and the most since UD defeated Hofstra 25-3 on March 28, 1987.
- The Blue Hens dished out 17 assists, which are the second-most in program history. Delaware had 18 assists on April 22, 1990 in a 22-1 win against Hofstra
- The 18-goal margin of victory is the largest since a 24-6 win at La Salle on February 25, 2015.
- Delaware has kept its opponents under 10 goals for six-consecutive games, the longest streak since doing it in six-straight games during the 2016 season.
- The nine goals in the third quarter are tied for the most in a quarter in program history and the 16 second-half goals are the most in any half under Altig.
