EL PASO, TEXAS - University of Delaware softball's Maddie Diamond hit two home runs as part of a 2-for-3 day as UD defeated UTEP, 9-3. Diamond became the first Delaware freshman to hit two home runs in a game since 2016.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Diamond hit two home runs, had four RBIs, scored three runs, and walked once.
Sydney Shaffer hit a two-run home run and walked three times.
Katie Scheivert went 3-for-5 and scored two runs.
Gianna Costaro was 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk.
Allie Nankivell went 2-for-5.
Sorella Gallucci walked twice and had a hit.
Kylie Wilkerson earned the win, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing just four hits.
Claire Woods recorded the final seven outs and allowed just two hits and zero runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wilkerson pitched a perfect first inning with three groundouts.
Diamond hit a two-run opposite-field home run to put UD ahead 2-0.
UTEP got a run back in the bottom half of the inning.
Shaffer followed in the third with a two-run home run to give Delaware a 4-1 lead.
Wilkerson then had a strikeout in a shutdown inning in the third, then pitched a scoreless fourth.
Delaware loaded the bases in the fifth before Blazys hit a hot-shot past the second baseman to score two runs, giving UD a 6-1 lead.
UTEP got two runs back in the fifth.
Delaware scored three runs in the sixth. Costaro had an RBI single and Diamond hit another two-run home run to put Delaware up 9-3.
Woods escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth by inducing a flyout to end the inning.
Woods then sealed the win in the seventh with a strikeout.

GAME NOTES

Diamond recorded her first career multi-home run game of her career. It's also the third multi-home run game by a Delaware player this season, with Shaffer having hit a pair against Stonehill in the season opener on Feb. 6 and Gallucci homering twice against Le Moyne on March 1.
Diamond also extended her on-base streak to a career-best 10 games.
Diamond became the third Delaware player to hit at least 10 home runs in a freshman season, joining Mariah Kondravy (2015) and Anna Steinmetz (2016). She also became the eighth UD player with at least 30 RBIs in a freshman season.
Diamond's multi-home run game was the first by a Delaware freshman since Anna Steinmetz on May 10, 2016.
Shaffer hit her 35th career home run, moving past Mariah Kondravy for second most all-time in program history. She has hit five home runs in her last nine games.
Shaffer and Diamond are the first pair of Delaware teammates to hit at least 10 home runs in the same season.
Scheivert recorded her 194th career hit and her 13th multi-hit of her career. She also had her fourth three-hit game of the season.
Costaro recorded her second three-hit game in the last three games and seventh mutl-hit game of the season.
Nankivell extended her on-base streak to a career-best 15 games, tying Costaro for the longest by a Delaware player this season. She also recorded her third straight multi-hit game and 11th multi-hit game of her career.
Gracie Jacobs has scored a run in four consecutive games as a pinch runner.
Delaware had its 10th career multi-home run game of the season. It tied its season high with three home runs, last done against Le Moyne on March 1.

Delaware plays the second game of the series against UTEP tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Softball season ticket deposits are available now. Season ticket packages and individual game tickets will go on sale later this winter.

Individual ticket prices will be $10 per game and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Season ticket packages will be available at 50 percent off the single-game rate. There will also be group rates, incentives, and additional gameday experience opportunities. All seating will be general admission at Delaware Softball Diamond.

UD students will continue to receive free tickets to all home softball games.
