- Born July 1, 1999 in Washington, D.C.
- Daughter of Molly and Phillip McCarthy
- Has four siblings, Phillip, Maggy, Mary Clare and Rosemary
- Sister, Mary Clare, is a junior defender for the Virginia Tech lacrosse team
- Cousin, Morgan Whyte, was a member of the Delaware swim & dive team from 2012-16
- Cousin, Meghan McCarthy, played lacrosse at Louisville
- Multiple other cousins played sports collegiately
- Legally changed name to Mercedes in honor of her grandmother who came to America from Newfoundland, Canada to dance at NYU at a time when it was uncommon for women to go to college (she was born in 1917). She inspires Mercy to reach outside the norms of society and try to make a better version of herself.
