Sister, Mary Clare, is a junior defender for the Virginia Tech lacrosse team
Cousin, Morgan Whyte, was a member of the Delaware swim & dive team from 2012-16
Cousin, Meghan McCarthy, played lacrosse at Louisville
Multiple other cousins played sports collegiately
Legally changed name to Mercedes in honor of her grandmother who came to America from Newfoundland, Canada to dance at NYU at a time when it was uncommon for women to go to college (she was born in 1917). She inspires Mercy to reach outside the norms of society and try to make a better version of herself.
