Former Blue Hen standout John Dineen begins his third season as full-time assistant coach on the University of Delaware men's soccer coaching staff in the fall of 2021.
Dineen, who served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2018 season, was a four-year member of the Blue Hens from 2010-13 before graduating from UD in 2014 with a degree in health behavior science. A native of Tralee, Ireland, he went on to earn his Master's Degree in coaching and exercise science at University College Dublin in 2017.
Dineen appeared in 11 games while making eight starts as a freshman in 2010, before starting 19 matches for the 2011 squad that posted 13 victories and captured the program's first CAA Championship. Dineen, who was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team and finished the year with three goals, then scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of the Blue Hens' 1-0 victory over defending national champion Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
A two-year team captain, Dineen then appeared in and started 14 matches in 2012, finishing the year with one goal.
