Sarah Armour wrapped up her second season in 2016 as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware following her hiring on July 18, 2014.
During Armour’s tenure on the Delaware sidelines, the Blue Hens have posted back-to-back 11-win seasons, the most since the 2008 campaign.
Armour was key in guiding the team’s defensive unit, which ranked fourth in 2015 NCAA Division I rankings with a scoring defense of 7.0 while placing 16th with 9.57 caused turnovers. In 2016, the Hens were 13th nationally with a scoring defense of 7.53 and 26th with 9.29 caused turnovers per game.
The Blue Hens kicked off 2015 with fireworks by defeating No. 16 Georgetown, 17-5, in the opener before exploding for a 22-2 victory at Lafayette. Delaware also defeated No. 11 Princeton, 12-10, on the road to collect two wins over nationally ranked opponents for the first time since 2005. The Hens received their own votes on the IWLCA Division I Weekly Poll throughout the majority of the season and were ranked as high as No. 19 in mid-March.
Armour played an instrumental part in the development of Caitlin McCartney and Erin Wein, who were both named IWLCA All-Region, First Team All-CAA and CAA All-Tournament Team selections.
Off of the field, Armour has directed the team’s community service efforts, which totaled more than 1,000 hours and $6,000 donated to local non-profit organizations. She was also crucial in recruiting efforts in which the team signed seven prospective student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2015-16 academic year.
Armour joined UD from a successful Jacksonville program, where she was the assistant coach and defensive coordinator for three years.
A 2008 graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Armour brought five years of coaching experience to the Hens. During her three years at JU, she helped transform the Dolphins from a startup program into a national contender with three conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. During her last season, Jacksonville ranked in the top 10 nationally in six of eight NCAA statistical categories.
“I am excited to be a part of all the great tings that are happening at Delaware right now,” stated Armour when she joined the team. “Kateri has established a vision that is fiercely competitive. She had demonstrated a positive trend in developing individual players and building team success. I look forward to helping to lead a great group of student-athletes to academic and athletic excellence. It is truly an honor to join the Delaware lacrosse coaching staff and to become a part of the Blue Hen family.”
Prior to Jacksonville, Armour coached prep powerhouse Bartram Trail, helping the squad remain one of the top programs in north Florida with consecutive district championships and a cumulative record of 42-13.
She also has coaching experience with LaxManiax Elite club, North East Maryland Select (NEMS) club, and Johns Hopkins Little Jays youth league team.
A former captain and four-year varsity starter at Johns Hopkins, the former Sarah Gallion was twice named the school’s Defensive Player of the Year. She also earned All-American Lacrosse Conference and Mid-Atlantic honors in 2006 and 2008. As a senior, she was honored as a WomensLacrosse.com third team All-American. Armour played in the prestigious IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star game as a defender, leading her South team to a win to cap a stellar career.
Armour starred for Maryland’s C. Milton Wright High School from 2001-04 before graduating from Hopkins with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with minors in entrepreneurship and management, and psychology. She currently serves on the IWLCA Regional All-American Ranking committee.
Armour and her husband, Brock, were married in August 2014 and have a son, Jackson.
