- Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development
David ‘Tee’ Johnson, who most recently served as an assistant coach at University of Massachusetts Lowell, has joined the Delaware men's basketball staff as an assistant coach/director of player development, ahead of the 2025-26 season.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome David 'Tee' Johnson to our Blue Hen basketball family,” Ingelsby said. “David is a tireless worker who will bring a tremendous amount of energy and passion to our program each and every day. As a former high school head coach with excellent recruiting ties in the DMV area and nationally, he is a great communicator who has a proven track record of developing young men both on and off the court."
Prior to spending the 2025-26 season at UMass Lowell, Johnson served as the head varsity boys' basketball coach at Jackson-Reed High School in Washington, D.C. from 2022-25. In Johnson's four years at Jackson-Reed, he posted a 112-21 overall record and won the DCIAA Championship in 2022 and 2024 and the DCIAA regular-season title in 2025. The team earned national recognition as a top-25 ranked high school team by both ESPN and USA Today, including a program-best No. 19 during the 2023-24 season. Johnson was also named the 2023 DCIAA Coach of the Year.
“I’m thankful to Coach Ingelsby for this opportunity, excited to join a great community and be part of the Delaware program,” Johnson said. “I’m ready to add value and contribute to winning every single day.”
In addition to coaching at Jackson-Reed, Johnson served as the head coach for Team Durant, part of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), from 2020-25. There, he created challenging practice plans for top players in the DMV, facilitated off-season training programs, and developed new drills for players. In 2022 and 2024, Johnson led the team to be Nike EYBL Elite 8 Finalists.
After starting his collegiate career at Farmingdale State, he transferred to Lyndon State College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sports management in 2015 before earning his master's degree in education from Moreland University in 2020. He was then inducted into the Lyndon State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022 for the mark he left on the Hornets’ men’s basketball program. Johnson was a 1,000-point scorer and led his team to two NAC tournament semifinal appearances in his junior and senior years.
Johnson and his wife Paula are parents to their daughter Drew.
