NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team held strong against arguably one of the best offenses in the nation Tuesday evening, but #rv Princeton was just too much in the end as the Blue Hens fell to the Tigers, 87-59, at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Junior Courtni Green (below left; Winchester, Va./Millbrook) led UD (4-4) with 18 points while chipping in five assists and five rebounds. Senior Joy Caracciolo (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) added 14 p
oints, five rebounds and two blocked shots while sophomore Hannah Jardine (below right; St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) collected 12 points and four rebounds.
Princeton (11-0) led by just three with five minutes remaining in the first half, but put the pressure on and went up by 45-33 to go into the locker room at halftime.
The Tigers didn't let up in the second half and never let the Hens closer than 11 before taking a 29-point advantage with three minutes left on the clock.
Annie Tarakchian led all scorers with 22 points and went 5-for-6 from behind the arc. Tarakchian added a game-high nine rebounds with five assists. Blake Dietrick posted a double double of 12 points and 10 assists in the win for Princeton.
“I have a lot of respect for Princeton, they are a very good team. I think they should be getting votes in the Top 25 and they took it to us tonight on our home floor. Defensively, our communication was really lacking. It's a growing process and we will take this as a learning experience and try to get better. We'll eventually get it. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later. Good teams show your weaknesses very quickly and that's what Princeton did tonight.”
Junior Courtni Green
We lacked communication today. We needed to be smart and communicate and we didn't do that. They were getting up and down the floor and beating us on transition. That's where we fell behind. We will learn from this and get better.”
