Delaware Women's Lacrosse Rallies for 8-7 CAA Victory at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Down 5-2 at halftime, the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team opened the second half with six straight goals en route to an 8-7 win over Hofstra in Colonial Athletic Association action at James M. Shuart Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) scored three of the first four goals of the second half for the Blue Hens, including one just 30 seconds coming out of the break.
With Lyons' goal at the 14:18 mark, Delaware (9-4, 2-1 CAA) took the 6-5 advantage and never looked back in the win.
The Pride threatened late, logging two goals in the final 2:10 of the game, but the Blue Hens were able to hold on for their first road CAA win of the season.
Caitlin McCartney (Doylestown, Pa.) add two goals, one assists and a team-best three draw controls while sophomore Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y.) captured two goals and one draw control.Sophomore Lizzie Duffey (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) collected a game- and career-high five groundballs for Delaware in addition to causing three HU turnovers.
Senior Tori Zorovich (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned her eighth win of the season by tallying three saves.
Hofstra (5-8, 0-2 CAA) was led by Jenn Ward's two goals while Brittain Altomare dished out four assists. Kelsey Gregerson posted the loss, allowing seven goals with 10 saves.
“I am so happy to see this team finally win this two-game swing against Drexel and Hofstra, which something we haven't done since 2008. Today's game was really a great team effort.”
Caitlin McCartney has tallied at least one point in 42 consecutive contests.
· Abbie Hartman posted her ninth goal of the year with 4:56 remaining in the game.
