CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team knocked down nine free throws in the final five minutes and held the University of Delaware to just one field goal in the same span as the Blue Hens dropped their second consecutive game, 55-49, Tuesday evening at TD Arena.
In a back and forth affair, Delaware led, 47-44, with 6:14 remaining in the contest before the Cougars (3-10, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association) forced five UD turnovers and finished on an 11-2 run for the win.
With the loss, the Blue Hens fall to 5-8 on the year and 0-2 in league play.
Sophomore Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) posted her second double double in three games with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior Courtni Green (at left; Winchester, Va./Millbrook) led Delaware with 15 points while senior Joy Caracciolo (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and freshman Chastity Taylor (Islandia, N.Y./St. Anthony's) dished out four assists apiece.
Breanna Bolden collected a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and five steals for CofC.
“It is extremely frustrating to watch us struggle like this. We played sloppy, made crucial mistakes and had crucial turnovers that are difficult to swallow. Everyone is frustrated right now, but we're going to keep working at it. We have to get back to the drawing board and get better.”
