PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sophomore Liz McGroarty led the Blue Hens for the second straight meet with a 36th place performance as the University of Delaware cross country squad finished 13th in the team standings at the Princeton Invitational Saturday morning at the West Windsor Fields course.
Competing in their final meet before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships later this month, the Blue Hens garnered 331 points to finish 13th in a field of 24 that included some of the top teams in the East. Pennsylvania won the team title with 71 points followed by Guelph, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, and UMBC in the top five.
McGroarty, a sophomore from Glen Mills, Pa. (Garnet Valley HS), covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:21.9 to place 36th overall in a field of 206 runners and lead all UD runners. She led the Hens for the second straight week after capturing the individual title at the UD Blue & Gold Invitational last weekend.
Also for the Blue Hens at Princeton, junior Betsy Erlanger (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh, Pa.) returned from a week off to finish 47th in a time of 22:32.6. Rounding out the Hens' top five runners were junior captain Gabby Alaimo (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bridgewater, N.J.) in 70th place (23:01.3), freshman Emily Paolucci (Padua, Del./Logan Township, N.J.) in 72nd place (23:03.6), and senior Erin McCloskey (Mt. de Sales/Columbia, Md.) in 106th place (23:46.3).
Penn also won the men's team title with 42 points as the Quakers placed four runners in the top 10 to outdistance runner-up Villanova.
Delaware will take next week off in preparation for the CAA Championships, which will be held Oct. 31 at the College of Charleston (S.C.).
