Blue Hen Cross Country Finishes 24th at Paul Short Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country team finished in 24th place on Friday morning at the 42nd Annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
The Blue Hens recorded 592 points to finish 24th out of 35 squads in the Women's Gold race. University of Guelph captured the team title with a 105 score, followed by Cornell, Johns Hopkins, UConn and James Madison.
The Blue Hens improved 10 spots from their 34th place showing in 2014.
UD junior Betsy Erlanger was the Blue Hens' top finisher for the second consecutive meet, as she finished 59th in the six-kilometer race with a time of 21.37. Her finish was the best by a Blue Hen runner at Paul Short since Julia Somers finished 56th in 2006.
Liz McGroarty placed 110th in 22:08 while Lauren Zodl was 127th in 22:19 and Leanza Lopez came in 137th with a time of 22:26.
Gabby Alaimo was 159th for Delaware in 22:38 while Emily Paolucci was 188th in 22:51 and Kathleen Dailey came in 209th in 23:13.
In the College Open Race, the Blue Hens were led by Erin McCloskey who finished in 33rd place with a time of 22:52.
Delaware returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 when the Blue Hens host the Blue & Gold Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. at White Clay Creek State Park.
