Gianniny Ties For Sixth Place, Delaware Eighth at Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- University of Delaware sophomore Jack Gianniny tied for sixth place in the individual standings while the Blue Hen men's golf squad placed eighth in the team standings this week at the Elon Phoenix Invitational.
Gianniny carded an even par 71 during Tuesday's final round on the par 71, 6,867-yard Alamance Country Club course as he finished with a one under par 70-71-71-212, the lowest three-round score of his career. Adam Ball of VCU was the tournament medalist as he recorded a nine under par 69-69-66-204 during the invitational.
Delaware posted its third consecutive sub-300 round of the tournament with a 297 score on Tuesday, as the Blue Hens finished in eighth place out of 16 squads with an 888 total. No. 47 East Carolina captured the team title with an 833 score, followed by Charleston Southern at 856 and VCU at 861.
Kieran Purcell tied for 43rd place with a 12 over par 77-75-73-225 for the Blue Hens, while fellow sophomore Blaine Lafferty fired a 13 over par 70-78-78-226 to finish in a tie for 45th place.
Junior Marc Oliveri tied for 65th place after his 18 over par 81-74-76-231 score, while freshman Mark Benevento carded a 22 over par 76-82-77-235 to tie for 75th place.
Delaware closes out its 2015 fall season on Oct. 25-27 when the Blue Hens compete in the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Invitational at Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, N.C.
