Purcell, Lafferty Lead Hens To Fourth Place at Cape Fear Intercollegiate

LELAND, N.C. -- Blue Hen freshmen Kieran Purcell and Blaine Lafferty each posted top 10 finishes while leading the University of Delaware men's golf team to fourth place in the team standings Sunday and Monday at the Cape Fear Intercollegiate.
Gardner-Webb captured the team title with a three-round total of 886, while tournament host Appalachian State finished second with an 895 score. High Point placed third at 896 while the Blue Hens, who carded an impressive 295 on Monday, finished fourth out of 12 schools at 905.
Purcell carded a two over par 74 on Monday on the par 72, 6,950-yard Cape Fear National Golf Course, finishing in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings with a five over par score of 76-71-74-221.
Lafferty had the low round of the day by a Blue Hen by firing a one under par 71 to post his highest finish at UD, tying for 10th place with a six over par score of 79-72-71-222.
Fellow freshman Jack Gianniny tied for 28th place at the invitational with a 15 over par score of 79-76-76-231, while senior Niño Rosal carded a 17 over par 77-82-74-233 to tie for 36th place. Junior Kyle Martin tied for 58th place with a 28 over par 81-80-83-244.
Jack Sides of High Point posted a five-shot victory with a two under par score of 69-72-73-213 to earn medalist honors.
Delaware is back in action Sunday through Tuesday at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
