Hens Notch Strong Performances vs. Temple and Lehigh in Spring Debut

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Delaware women's rowing team kicked off its spring season with a strong performance against Temple and Lehigh in a tri-meet Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
Kevin GruberDelaware's two race victories of the day came in the Second Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours competitions. In the Second Varsity Eights race, the Hens finished with a winning time of 7:15.19. Coxswain Molly Gardner led the UD crew to a 10-second victory over Lehigh.
In the Varsity Fours race, coxswain Jamie Noce guided the Hens to a winning time of 7:46.55. Delaware's second crew finished in 8:18.81 while Lehigh's boat notched a time of 8:23.10.
The Blue Hens began the day with the Novice Eight competition vs. Temple. The Delaware boat with Alison Gibney as coxswain recorded a time of 7:07.24, which finished behind the Temple boat which tallied a time of 6:57.08.
The second race of the day was the Varsity Eights. The Hens faced off with Lehigh and finished the race in 7:06.91 while the Mountain Hawks posted a time of 6:57.47.
The Blue Hens will return to the water next weekend as UD will participate in the Murphy Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
