Delaware Moves to 19 in IWLCA Coaches Poll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Amidst one of the best starts in program history, the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team has moved up in the IWLCA rankings to No. 19, as announced by the organization early Monday afternoon.
The Blue Hens, who have won three straight contests, are currently 5-1 on the year and received 38 votes. The No. 19 ranking is the highest for the program since the 2005 season.
Delaware has excelled offensively so far this season and has outscored opponents by a margin of 96-34. The Hens have scored first in all six contests and have held all opponents to single digit goals. Furthermore, UD is ranked in the top 10 of four NCAA Division I statistical categories including scoring margin (fourth, 10.33), scoring defense (fifth, 5.67), scoring offense (sixth, 16.0) and points (ninth, 127).
Caitlin McCartneyJunior McKenzie Rafferty (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) is fifth in the league with 2.5 goals per contest while classmate Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) is seventh at 2.17. Sophomore Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) rounds out the top 10 with 1.67 goals per.
Alex ZaugraDelaware travels to Villanova Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest before returning home to Delaware Stadium Saturday for a 3 p.m. draw against Temple.
