Hens Drop 5-2 CAA Decision to Towson

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team battled tooth and nail Monday afternoon, but ultimately Towson University came out on top by a score of 5-2 at the Delaware Field House Outdoor Courts.
The Hens (4-7, 0-4 Colonial Athletic Association) collected the team doubles point for the second consecutive match.
Senior Abby Martinez (Winter Haven, Fla./Winter Haven) and freshman Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) paired for the first win of the day by defeating Cailey Easdale and Barbora Vasilkova, 8-1, in No. 3 doubles.
Senior Kim Milla (México City, México/CONAMAT) and sophomore Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) followed with an 8-2 decision against Lucy Williams and Ayana Down in the second slot to clinch the team point.
In singles action, Studnicki tallied the lone victory for Delaware in the fourth flight. Studnicki registered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win over A.J. Gomer.
Junior Danea Jonjic' (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical), senior Christina Harrington (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) and Martinez all forced three-set matches, but were unable to convert for victory.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 11-8 on the year and 2-2 in CAA action.
“What a match this was today. We competed incredibly well, but Towson was the better team today. They played well when they needed to.”
