NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Following a game in which the University of Delaware men's soccer team tallied its most goals of the season, Iona College held the Blue Hens scoreless in a 3-0 decision Wednesday evening at Mazzella Field.
The Gaels (3-2-1) received a goal from Daniel Huerta in the seventh minute while Marcos Nunez gave the team the 2-0 advantage at the half with his score in the 37th minute.
Brendan Reardon picked up the final goal of the game in the 66th minute.
Junior Marco Siverio (El Rosario, Spain/Colegio Hispano Británico) led the Blue Hens (3-2-1) with three shots, including two on goal.
Sophomore Carlos Perales (L'Alcúdia de Crespins, Spain/Colegio Claret Xàtiva) and juniors Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) and Jaime Martinez (Madrid, Spain/American School of Madrid) each posted two shoes for Delaware.
Freshman Blai Palmí (Moixent, Spain/IES Dr. Lluís Simarro) collected five saves for Delaware while Julian Petrello logged six saves for Iona.
“Well done to Iona. They deserved the win and were the better team today. We are a young and learning group and today we learned how to play from behind against a very technical team who was very quick to pounce on our mistakes.”
