NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team won the second and third sets to take control, but the College of Charleston answered by taking the final two sets as the Blue Hens dropped yet another five-set thriller to the Cougars Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Charleston, which won its fifth straight match while improving to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial
Athletic Association, captured the match by set scores of 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 25-12, 15-8.
The Cougars led for almost the entire first set, and looked to take a two-set lead when they won four straight points to go in front 22-21 in the second.
However Delaware answered by taking four of the next five points, including the set-winner on a Jenkins kill, to even the match at a set apiece.
The Blue Hens raced out to a 21-12 advantage in the third set, and after Charleston rallied to knot the frame at 23-23, a Cougars service error and a Jenkins kill put UD in front by a set.
But Charleston would dominate the final two sets, never trailing in either one, to post the comeback victory.
Delaware, which closed out an eight-match homestand, returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Hofstra.
Match Notes:
• Jenkins has posted double-doubles in seven of the last eight matches, including five straight
• Each team recorded 13 blocks on the day
• Both teams used 13 players during the match
• Charleston improved to 7-0 vs. the Blue Hens since joining the CAA
• UD's homestand was its longest since an eight-game stretch in 1995
