Women's Lacrosse Opens 2016 at Georgetown Friday

The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team kicks off the 2016 campaign Friday with a 4 p.m. contest at Georgetown.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up due to predicted frigid temperatures this coming weekend.
Last season, the Blue Hens tallied its most wins (11) since 2008 and earned their second straight trip to the CAA Semifinals.

HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
· This season is the 39th overall in program history. In the previous 38 seasons, the Blue Hens have tallied a composite record of 357-281-1 (.559) with 17 10-plus-win years.
· Delaware returns 22 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2015 season while welcoming eight newcomers.
· The Blue Hens feature 11 seniors and five juniors on their roster.
· Delaware was predicted to finish third in the CAA Preseason Poll.
· Seniors Casey Lyons and Erin Wein and junior Jamie Schwartz were Preseason All-CAA picks while seniors Shannon Hawley and Kara Dattellas received Honorable Mention accolades.
· Senior Abby Wheble and junior Coley Ricci were named the Delaware team captains for the 2016 season.
· Senior Elyse Andrews and sophomores Becky Gohsler, Megan Santoleri and Sarah Ashwood join Wheble and Ricci on the team's leadership council.
SERIES INFORMATION
· Georgetown leads the all-time series between the two teams, 3-1, but Delaware won the most recent contest, 17-5, over the No. 16 Hoyas in last season's opener in Newark.
· The Blue Hens are 0-2 against GU in Washington, D.C.
· In the last matchup at Cooper Field, No. 10 Georgetown picked up the 19-11 victory on Feb. 15, 2014. In the contest, Kara Dattellas notched five goals for her first career hat trick.
· The Hens and Hoyas have met in each of the last four season lid-lifters.
· Ricky Fried (UMBC '88) is in his 12th season at the helm of the Hoyas and has guided Georgetown to a 124-77 mark during his tenure.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas completed 2015 with a share of the BIG EAST regular season title following a 6-1 finish to league play. In total, Georgetown returns eight starters and 21 letterwinners from last season's squad, which went 7-10 overall. Seniors Kristen Bandos and Corinne Etchison earned Preseason All-BIG East Team accolades while the team was selected to finish third in the conference. Bandos led the Hoyas last season with 29 goals while Etchison collected 27 points on 18 goals and nine assists.
