LAST TIME OUT
It was once again a complete team effort Tuesday evening with nine Blue Hens tallying at least one point as Delaware defeated La Salle, 12-7, at Delaware Stadium. La Salle scored first, but the Hens (3-1) countered with nine of the game's next 10 goals. The Explorers (0-2) made a late run, but the Delaware defense was able to hold on for victory. Casey Lyons registered four points on two goals and two assists while Jamie Schwartz collected three points on two goals and an assist. Coley Ricci posted a solid game with three caused turnovers, three groundballs and three draw controls to go along with an assist. Becky Gohsler added a game-high four draw controls while Erin Wein collected three groundballs and four caused turnovers. Taylor Carpentier moved to 3-1 on the year in the cage with six saves.
HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
· The Blue Hens have had at least six players tally a goal in each of its four games so far this season.
· Delaware is off to a 3-1 start in back-to-back seasons.
· The Hens have scored at least 10 goals in all four games, while holding opponents to single digits in each of their wins.
· Delaware is 10th nationally with 11.5 caused turnovers per game.
· Casey Lyons is eighth in the NCAA with 16 points and seven assists.
· Lyons is 23rd in program history with 130 points (85g, 45a).
· Dating to last season, Jamie Schwartz has tallied points in 11 straight games and goals in nine consecutive.
· Caroline Farley notched her first career goal against La Salle Tuesday.
· Kara Dattellas is tied for 10th all-time for Delaware with 63 career draw controls.
SERIES INFORMATION
· Delaware leads the all-time series between the two programs, 15-11, dating to the 1978 season.
· Last season, the Hens snapped a five-game losing streak to Rutgers with a 12-7 at Delaware Stadium on Feb. 28. McKenzie Rafferty guided UD with four goals, all of which were Delaware's final four of the game. The attacker also posted a groundball and caused turnover for the Blue Hens.
· In the last matchup in Piscataway, the Scarlet Knights collected the 8-7 victory in 2014.
· Rutgers has won five of the last six against the Blue Hens.
· Also manning the sidelines at her alma mater, Laura Brand-Sias (Rutgers '99) is in her 14th season with the Scarlet Knights. She has posted a mark of 108-108 at Rutgers and is 118-115 overall after spending a season as the head coach at Fairfield.
ABOUT RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights collected the 14-8 win over Villanova to start the year before dropping two straight to Monmouth (12-10) and No. 15 Johns Hopkins (14-2). Entering the second season of Big Ten lacrosse, RU was selected to finish tied for fifth in the league alongside Michigan. Halley Barnes (7g, 2a) and Kristina Dunphey (7p, 1a) guide Rutgers with nine and eight points, respectively, while Dunphey has also grabbed a team-best seven draw controls. Bianca Dente has started all three games in the cage for RU and has posted 19 saves with 12.81 goals allowed in 131 minutes played.
