TOWSON, Md. – Delaware fought back from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter Friday evening to pick up a 66-62 victory over the Tigers at Towson's SECU Arena.
Towson held the momentum to start the final stanza before the Blue Hens rallied to outscore the Tigers, 14-2, in the remaining minutes of the contest.
Sophomore Makeda Nicholas (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) tallied six straight points to bring the Hens within reach before redshirt sophomore Sadé Chatman (below right; St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) and junior Erika Brown (at left; Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) gave Delaware the lead for good with two minutes on the clock.
Senior Courtni Green (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) led Delaware (11-10, 6-4 CAA) with 16 points while Brown notched 15 to go along with a team-best four assists.
Nicholas added her fourth career double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in addition to tying a career-high with four blocked shots while junior Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) collected 10 points of her own.
Dominique Johnson posted a game-high 23 points for the Tigers (5-16, 2-8 CAA) while Sianni Martin and Brittany Tarr each grabbed seven rebounds.
“We did a good job defending tonight and that was the key. I'm proud of these kids; they kept their composure when we were down. They believed that they could fight their way back. We hung tough and it paid off. Now we have to get ready for Elon and keep the momentum.”
Senior Courtni Green
“It's definitely hard [to come from behind twice], especially against a team like Towson. I thought we kept our composure; we knew what we had to do to get the win. We did an excellent job working together and keeping our heads focused on the same goal.”
Freshman Nicole Enabosi
“I think coming from behind shows that we have matured and are able to stick together through anything. We knew we were still in it towards the end and were confident that we could get over that hump.”
