WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- William & Mary put five players in double figures and shot over 50 percent from the field as the Tribe cruised to a 90-64 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball victory over Delaware Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Omar Prewitt scored 21 points while Terry Tarpey posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Tribe, which won its fourth straight game while improving to 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the league.
Kory Holden scored a game-high 24 points while Marvin King-Davis contributed 22 points and a team-best eight rebounds for the Blue Hens, who dropped their school record 15th straight game and fell to 5-18 overall and 0-12 in the conference. The duo, who combined for just three points Thursday at Elon, hit 16 of UD's 20 field goals and finished 12 of 14 from the foul line.
Devonne Pinkard scored 10 points to reach double figures for the third straight game but the Blue Hens, who committed a season-low four turnovers, shot just 33.9 percent from the floor and never led during the contest.
Meanwhile the Tribe went 33 of 62 to finish with a 53.2 shooting percentage, and knocked down 13 three-point attempts. William & Mary held a 32-16 edge in points in the paint and a 33-2 advantage in bench scoring, while the Tribe out-rebounded UD, 43-28.
“Kory (Holden) and Marvin (King-Davis) responded the way I thought they would, and I'm proud of their effort today,” said Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross. “But we need contributions from other guys, and we didn't get that today. We missed some point blank shots inside, which you can't do against a good team like William & Mary.”
William & Mary jumped out to a 20-11 lead with 8:37 to play in the first half, but five straight points by Holden four minutes later brought the Blue Hens within 22-16. However the Tribe exploded for a 17-4 spurt to go in front by 19 before a slam dunk by King-Davis in the final seconds cut UD's deficit to 39-22 at the break.
William & Mary then opened the second half with an 8-2 spurt to go in front 47-24 and force a Blue Hen timeout with 17:12 left. Holden answered with five straight for Delaware, while his three-pointer from the top of the key made it a 49-32 game at the 15:35 mark. However that would be as close as Delaware would get, as the Tribe led by at least 20 during the final 14 minutes of the game.
Delaware, which concluded a stretch that saw the Blue Hens play five of six contests on the road, opens a three-game homestand on Thursday against Drexel at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Game Notes:
• Delaware lost for just the second time in its last 11 trips to Williamsburg
• UD has dropped 10 straight games on the road
• William & Mary improved to 11-1 at home this year
• The Tribe swept UD for the first time since the 2009-10 season
• Cazmon Hayes hit the 100th three-pointer of his career
• Holden has surpassed the 20-point mark in five of his last eight games
