PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Delaware made a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter and outscored No. rv Rutgers, 7-3, in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough as the Hens fell, 15-11, to the Scarlet Knights Saturday evening at High Point Solutions Stadium.
Junior Paul Major (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and sophomore Dean DiSimone (West Depford, N.J./Augustine Prep) each collected career games for the Blue Hens in the loss.
Major registered a career-high five goals, including four in the fourth quarter, on eight shots to go along with two groundballs while DiSimone collected six points on three goals and three assists.
Delaware (3-7) also saw career contests from freshman Austin Haynes (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and sophomore Parker Ferrigan (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville). Haynes finished the day with eight groundballs from the defensive position while Ferrigan logged 17 saves and five groundballs in the cage.
Julse Heningburg and Adam Charalambides notched three goals, two assists and two groundballs apiece for the Scarlet Knights (7-2). Kris Alleyne picked up nine saves for his fourth win of the year.
“We need to do a better job in the first half preventing Rutgers from getting transition goals, especially in that first quarter when we fell behind 6-1. I was proud of how we continue to battle back in the second half to get it within three but couldn't finish it off as time ran out. The focus now turns to CAA play and this group is looking forward to starting the conference games at home versus UMass.”
