Elon Overtakes Blue Hens, 5-4, in Overtime

ELON, N.C. – Elon held Delaware without a goal for more than 38 minutes Friday evening as the Phoenix handed the Hens their fourth straight one-goal loss with a 5-4 overtime decision at Rudd Field.
Delaware led by a score of 4-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half before giving up five straight Elon goals, including the game-winner from Shelby Scanlin with 2:30 remaining in overtime.
Sophomore Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the Hens (8-5, 0-2 CAA) with two goals to go along with two groundballs and a draw control.
Senior Kara Dattellas (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior Coley Ricci (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each added a goal of their own while senior Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) dished out an assist.
Sophomore Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) picked up a team-best four groundballs while Ricci notched three. Carpentier was credited with the loss in the cage despite grabbing nine saves.
Kateri Linville“The team came out fired up to play tonight. We played tough defense and pushed the pace in the transition game. We made adjustments in the second half. We need to play smart and composed from start to finish in order to achieve our goals."
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens have lost four straight for the first time since 2012.
· Delaware was previously held without a goal in a half in an 8-4 loss at Canisius on March 25, 2015.
· The Hens and Phoenix each picked up 16 groundballs.
· Elon held a 9-4 advantage in draw controls and also outshot Delaware, 22-20.
