WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Blue Hens had four players score in double figures and led in almost every statistical category Friday en route to a 68-54 victory over William & Mary at Kaplan Arena.
Senior Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) led all scorers with 18 points while freshman Abby Gonzales (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) tied a season-high with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field to go along with five assists and three steals.
Sophomore Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded her sixth straight game with a double double and finished the night with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior Makeda Nicholas (North Babylon, N.Y/North Babylon) added 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists while tying a career-best four blocked shots.
William & Mary opened the game with a quick 4-0 run, but the Blue Hens responded by outscoring the Tribe, 14-0, over the next six-plus minutes and never looked back. W&M (13-5, 3-4 CAA) cut the lead to five in the fourth quarter, but Delaware (11-8, 5-3 CAA) used free throws to go up by as much as 14.
Marlena Tremba guided the Tribe with 16 points while Alexandra Masaquel posted 10 points and six rebounds.
“This was a total team effort and a great team win away from home. I thought we really kept our heads up and executed when we needed to. We shared the ball well, hustled and got the big rebounds when we needed them.”
Freshman Abby Gonzales
“It's big to come in and get a win on the road. With this being our second game against them, they definitely did their research and knew our weaknesses. We were able to adjust to that. As a young player, I've been realizing my mistakes and learning from them. You can't show any sign of mental weakness because the next play is going to come no matter what.”
