Delaware Finishes Ninth to Open Spring Season at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Delaware men's golf team finished in ninth place as the Blue Hens opened their 2019 spring season this weekend at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor.
After carding team rounds of 294 and 293 on Saturday, Delaware posted a 299 score during Sunday's final round to finish ninth out of 18 squads with an 886 total. South Carolina Beaufort captured the team crown at 872, while Austin Peay finished two shots back.
UD freshman Matt Pulgini was the Blue Hens' top finisher as he tied for 15th place with a two over par 72-71-75-218 on the par 72, 7,287-yard course at The Club at Savannah Harbor. Classmate Roberto Nieves carded the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with a 73, as he tied for 18th place with a three over par score of 74-72-73-219.
Jack Melville fired an eight over par 72-76-76-224 during the weekend to tie for 35th place, while Nick Vecellio tied for 73rd place with a 13 over par 76-74-79-229. RJ Wren, who shot a 21 over par 85-77-75-237 at the tournament, finished in a tie for 86th place.
Brian Peccie of Washington & Lee was the tournament medalist by coming in at four under par, while Evan Davis of Belmont was one shot back.
Delaware will take next weekend off before competing in the East Carolina Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C. on Mar. 4-5.
