HARRISONBURG, Va. – Winning the series.
That's the focus of the University of Delaware baseball team after dropping the second game of a three-game set at JMU, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon, in Colonial Athletic Association action.
"It was a good game for most of the day today, but we had one bad inning late and the game just got away from us a bit," head coach Jim Sherman said. "Credit to JMU for coming right back at us after yesterday and was able to put the pressure on us most of the day and convert with the big seventh inning."
Senior Erik Bowren went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Blue Hens, while classmate Kevin Mohollen reached base twice on the day at the top of the Delaware order.
Sophomore Chris Ludman tossed 6.1 innings and struck out nine on the mound.
"The important thing, especially during conference play, is winning the series. We have that opportunity tomorrow and we're looking forward to the challenge," Sherman added.
Delaware picked up right where it left off on Friday, putting the first two runners of the game on base and RBIs from Jordan Hutchins and Joseph Carpenter quickly put the Blue Hens up 2-0.
JMU wouldn't let the lead last long, hitting two HRs in the bottom of the first to tie it up 2-2.
The Dukes would put a run on the board in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning.
Delaware would get a runner on in the seventh, but wasn't able to scratch out a run. JMU responded in a big way with six runs to put the game out of reach at 11-2.
