4/21/2019 5:43:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
NEWARK, Del. – A first half surge by the Pride was too much for Delaware to overcome Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens fell to Hofstra, 14-8, at Delaware Stadium.
UD senior Caroline Farley posted the first goal of the game with a spectacular behind-the-back shot, but HU responded with six straight scores and never looked back in the contest.
Farley led the Hens with two goals and one assist to go along with three draw controls and one ground ball.
Sydney Rausa and Claire D'Antonio also collected two goals apiece while Sarah Bedard added one goal and two assists.
With the loss, the Hens fall to 1-4 in conference play and will not qualify for the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Tournament despite one game remaining in their season.
POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Kateri Linville
"The first half was a challenge for us in terms of discipline. We had a couple of man-down situations and there were times we didn't get the ground ball or the save that we needed in those instances. To put ourselves in a deficit like that in the first half really hurt us. We came back in the second half and battled but were never able to break away and get the momentum. This team relies on making defensive stops and causing turnovers and getting ground balls and today we didn't get that done. Hofstra maximized its possession opportunities. They took more shots and put more in the back of the net."
HEN SCRATCHINGS
• Chantae Simms is tied for first in single-season history with 39 caused turnovers alongside Erin Wein, who set the record in 2016.
• Sydney Rausa is nearing 100 career points and currently holds 95 points (71g, 24a) for her three-year career.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
• Saturday, April 27 – Towson at Delaware – 1 p.m. – Delaware Stadium (Newark, Del.)
