LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Delaware softball team continued its early season roll on Friday by defeating Sacramento State, 2-1, and Quinnipiac, 9-3, on the first day of the Loyola Marymount Tournament.
The Blue Hens have now won 10 consecutive games, the third longest streak in program history. The 2000 squad won 13 games in a row, while the inaugural 1976 team won 12 straight.
Delaware took the early lead against Sacramento State by scoring both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hanna Garber and Brittney Mendoza led off the frame with singles, and after they executed a double steal, Brooke Glanden ripped a single to centerfield to drive home both runners.
The Hornets got a run back in the top of the third on an RBI double, but the Blue Hens escaped a bases loaded jam and then allowed just one hit the rest of the way.
Glanden finished 2 for 3 at the plate with the two RBI, while five Blue Hens added a hit apiece.
UD again opened the scoring in the top of the first inning vs. Quinnipiac when Garber singled, Karolina Flores walked and Glanden belted a three-run homer.
Flores drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the second to make it 4-0, while Halle Kisamore crushed a two-run homer in the fifth.
