FORT MYERS, Fla. – Delaware held on for a 9-6 victory over UConn before shutting out Boston College, 2-0, as the Blue Hens picked up a pair of victories on Saturday at the FGCU Kickoff Classic.

In UD's first game of the day, the Blue Hens opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Brittney Mendoza delivered a two-run single down the rightfield line. Delaware then added two runs in the second on a two-run triple to center by Hanna Garber, who finished the game with four hits.

Brooke Glanden drove home two more runs with a single in the fourth, and after Mendoza belted a two-run double, Halle Kisamore capped with rally with an RBI double of her own.

The Huskies responded with four runs in the top of the fifth and two in the sixth, before Emily Winburn retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Delaware pitchers Maddi Marsh and Kailey Christian combined for an eight-hit shutout during the Blue Hens' victory over the Eagles.

UD scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the first when Karolina Flores was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on an infield single by Glanden. Chayanna Gallardo then hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Kisamore in the second for the only other run of the game.

Boston College loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but Christian entered the game and struck out the next two batters to escape the jam.
