Blue Hen Bats Deliver in Doubleheader Sweep of Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Delaware pounded out 19 runs on 22 hits during a doubleheader sweep of Towson, 10-4 and 9-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Hanna Garber led off the opener with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch, but Towson quickly answered with four runs in the bottom of the first.
The Blue Hens would dominate the rest of the game, pulling within a run in the top of the third when Brooke Glanden doubled home a run before Karolina Flores followed with a sacrifice fly.
Halle Kisamore was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth, while Emily Blum and Sarah Bessel added singles to load the bases. Garber then belted a grand slam, giving Delaware a 7-4 advantage. Glanden then singled and Flores followed with a two-run homer to put the Blue Hens up five.
UD added its final run in the fifth when Garber legged out a bunt single to drive home Bessel. Meanwhile Blue Hen starting pitcher Emily Winburn did not allow a hit after the second inning, as she went the distance to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Garber finished with two hits and five RBI to pace Delaware, while Flores also had two hits to go with three RBI. Glanden, Blum and Bessel added two hits apiece for the Blue Hens.
Delaware quickly scored three runs in the top of the first during the nightcap, as Brittney Mendoza hit a sacrifice fly before Glanden and Flores contributed RBI doubles.
The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the first, but Garber tripled home a run and Glanden belted a three-run homer in the second to make it a 7-1 game.
Bessel singled home Kisamore in the third, while Grace Hrustich doubled home Kisamore in the seventh to close the Blue Hens' scoring. Towson tacked on two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh, but would not get closer.
Garber had another big game at the plate by finishing 4 for 4 with two triples, while Glanden and Flores each added two hits. Delaware pitcher Delani Sheehan improved to 3-1 after allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits in a complete game victory.
