Blue Hens Drop Series Finale to Drexel, 5-2

NEWARK, Del. – Brittney Mendoza belted her third home run of the season but it wasn't enough as the Delaware softball team dropped its series finale to Drexel, 5-2, Monday afternoon.
The Blue Hens, who swept a doubleheader from the Dragons on Sunday, still took the CAA weekend set.
Drexel scored all the runs it would need in the top of the third inning by pushing across three unearned runs. The first two Dragons reached on errors, and two outs later Linda Rush ripped a two-run double to leftfield. Kristi DiMeo followed with an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.
Delaware struck back in the bottom of the frame as Hanna Garber led off with a single and one out later Mendoza blasted a pitch over the leftfield fence.
Drexel carried its 3-2 lead into the seventh, when DiMeo delivered a two-run single to give the Dragons a pair of insurance runs.
UD starting pitcher Kailey Christian took the loss for the Blue Hens after allowing three unearned runs on two hits in three innings of work. Mendoza and Garber each finished with two hits at the plate for Delaware, while Brooke Glanden, Karolina Flores and Chayanna Gallardo added one apiece.
