Newark, Del. – Hosting the CAA Championship for the first time since 2016, Delaware sent 11 runners to compete for the CAA crown.
Aided by top-15 finishers and All-CAA runners Sarah Daniels (14th, 22:07.30) and Autumn Sands (15th, 22:07.90), Delaware scored 117 points to earn fifth place overall.
"We were together the entire race," Sands said. "We were told to look for the Delaware [logo] and follow that, and I think we followed that to a T. I saw Sarah, I went with Sarah."
"It was all about finding strength in each other," Daniels said. "Any time I felt that it was awful [out there], I remembered that the team was counting on me and we were counting on each other. That was the mindset going in."
Also placing in the top 40 were Nina Sgambelluri (19th, 22:24.30), Molly Lashley (31st, 22:55.10) and Katie Hally (38th, 23:11.40), who all utilized the home course to their advantage to help Delaware earn its fifth-place spot.
"I thought the girls raced really strong today, and obviously this is a tough course," head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele said. "Our conference is also really strong, but we executed exactly the way we wanted to today."
Elon claimed its fourth consecutive conference championship, earning the team title with a score of 30 points. Northeastern placed second with a score of 49, and Stony Brook rounded out the scoring three with a score of 91. Northeastern junior Abigail Hassman earned the individual title with a time of 21:12.70.
The Blue Hens will turn their attention toward NCAA Regionals, which will take place on Nov. 11 on the campus of Penn State.
"We just have to build off of today going into regionals," Iyevbele said. "Reaching our goals at regionals will be keeping our packs close and as tight as possible."
