COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The University of Delaware track and field team headed to Collegeville, Pa. Saturday (Feb. 5) to compete at the Frank Colden Invitational hosted by Ursinus College inside Floy Lewis Bakes Center. The shining moment came in the pentathlon event while three Blue Hens added their names to the top-10 all-time performers' list.
Headlining the pentathlon event with a personal best and now UD's all-time leader with 3305 points was Alicia Lehman. Lehman had two first-place finishes in the 800 meter run (2:31.20) and long jump (5.63m, 18' 5.75") while taking second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.10), third in the high jump (1.46m, 4' 9.5") and fourth in the shot put (8.36m, 27' 5.25").
"Alicia's school record in the pentathlon was special," said head coach Ryan Waite. "We've had some really good athletes the past few years go after that record and fall short, and those athletes went on to do big things at the CAA Championships. That definitely bodes well for the rest of the year for her."
Following Lehman in the pentathlon event in second and third place, respectively, were Destiny DeBlock and Mayson Light. DeBlock earned 2967 points, where she had two first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles (9.03) and high jump (1.52m, 4' 11.75"), two fifth-place finishes in the shot put (8.22m, 26' 11.75") and long jump (4.68m, 15' 4.25") and a sixth-place finish in the 800m (2:43.75). Light received 2616 points after she took second place in the long jump (4.90m, 16' 1"), a trio of fifth-place finishes in the 60m hurdles (10.39), high jump (1.40m, 4' 7") and 800m (2:43.73) and seventh in the shot put (8.01m, 26' 3.5"). DeBlock and Light are now sixth and ninth, respectively, in the program's history books after their performances in the pentathlon.
Myrissa McFolling-Young won the shot put after tossing 13.83m (45' 4.5") to land in the third in the program's record books.
"The group as a whole saw some good improvements so we're excited to keep the momentum going as we wrap up the indoor season."
