Track & Field Closes Out Indoor Regular-Season at David Hemery Valentine Invite

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Delaware track and field team closed out their indoor regular-season Friday (Feb. 11) at the David Hemery Valentine Invite hosted by Boston University inside BU's Track and Tennis Center.
"This was our best meet of the year as a team. There were so many great moments, but a couple performances especially stand out," said head coach Ryan Waite. "Obviously Chioma breaking her own school record was huge and it was really fun to see Trinity and Aja go 1-2 in the 60. Also Myrissa's shot put, Susanna's mile, Halima and Marie's 400, and the 4x4 were all highlights. But even outside those who recorded top-10 all-time marks or ECAC qualifiers, there was generally improvement across all event groups. That's really encouraging as we close out the regular season for indoors."
To capture a second-place finish, Njoku shattered her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 19.02m (62' 5"). She beat her previous mark of 18.73m (61' 5.5"), a mark she set earlier this season at the MLK Day Invitational on Jan. 17, 2022. Myrissa McFolling-Young and Kosie Nkwonta both wrote their names in the history books after putting together shining performances in the shot put event. McFolling-Young's second place mark of 14.11m 46' 31/2 moved her into second place while Nkwonta's fourth-place mark of 13.26m 43' 6" moved her into sixth place in school history.
Trinity Tapper (7.61) and Aja Davis (7.62) claimed first and second place, respectively, in the 60 meter dash. Davis' mark moved her into the number four slot in the program's history books. Halima Scott led the Blue Hens in the 400 meters with a second-place finish (54.83) and in the 200 meters with a fifth-place finish (24.61). Marie-Frederique Poulin also made her appearance in the 400 meters with a fourth-place finish (55.46) sit in fourth place in program history.
Weir was the lone runner in the mile run with a time of 4:55.83 (62nd place), which was good enough to be the number six performer in the record books in the event. Alicia Lehman's second place finish in the long jump (5.69m 18' 8") moves her into the sixth slot in program history.
